Radiothon

This year was PRONIA’s 24th annual radiothon and we thank you all for your contributions over the two days and the commitment shown to raising funds. A total of $100,565.00 was raised over the two day event with the community showing their support to the organisation. The money raised will go towards strengthening the unfunded community support programs that address key social issues such as family violence and mental health in our community.

Giannis Ploutarhos

Giannis Ploutarhos visited us once again at PRONIA’s offices in Brunswick and spent time with the elderly and the staff talking and entertaining them. “My love for Australian Greeks is genuine and unspeakable. I really admire them” as he told us. The joy and excitement of all present at PRONIA’s offices on Thursday was simply indescribable. The famous singer had time to talk to everyone, take countless selfies and even serve food in the staff canteen. 50th Anniversary Gala Ball

The grand formal reception to mark the foundation of PRONIA 50 years ago, and its contribution to the Greek community, was held at Hyatt Place in Essendon Fields, on Saturday. PRONIA representatives, stakeholders and friends gathered to celebrate half a century of servicing the community. Teaming Up With Moreland City Council & Western Health

The two organisations teamed up with PRONIA to provide the most updated information about keeping COVID safe including a demonstration of how to use the RAT tests, to the Greek-speaking elderly of our community. Knowing how to use the RAT test once we have symptoms is very important so we can have access to antiviral medication early and prevent getting seriously ill. PRONIA has never stopped looking after the needs of women through the decades. Notably, some early AGWS (today’s PRONIA) initiatives directed towards the needs of women include the establishment of a child care centre and before and after school care programs. Other services developed with women’s needs at the forefront included the establishment, after extensive lobbying, of a marital guidance counseling position at the agency in 1981. PRONIA has had a long, proud history in advocating for social justice, equality of opportunity for individuals and communities, with the aim of helping to create a stronger, cohesive, and inclusive society for all Australians. It is within this spirit that PRONIA supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the “yes” vote in the upcoming referendum to constitutionally recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as the First Peoples of Australia and a Voice to parliament.
