Men’s Health Week

𝗠𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 is an annual campaign aiming to increase awareness of preventable health problems and promote the wellbeing of men and boys in our community.

This week, we want to promote a safe, healthy lifestyle for men and boys! That includes getting an annual check-up with their healthcare provider, eating nutritiously, keeping active and talking about their mental health.

PRONIA is committed to supporting the males in our community, to thrive and live the full lives they deserve! 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸!

CHD occurs when a coronary artery blocks and narrows from a build-up of plaque. Plaque is made up of cholesterol and fat that can build up inside the artery walls and clog over time. This may restrict the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart muscle and can result in chest pain, blood clots or a heart attack.

𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗛𝗗 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:
• Poor diet
• Physical inactivity
• Being overweight/obese
• Smoking
• High blood pressure and cholesterol

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁:
• Maintain a healthy diet
• Exercise regularly
• Don’t smoke
• Control your blood pressure and cholesterol levels

Sometimes there are no early warning signs of heart disease. See your GP today for a heart check!

Having trouble opening up about your health? You’re definitely not alone! Opening up, whether it be to a loved one or your GP is a commonly reported barrier that can interfere with good health.

While receiving health checks can be confronting for some men, noting down symptoms ahead of doctor’s visits or booking longer appointments to discuss everything you need to may make your appointment slightly easier. Becoming more comfortable and getting regular check-ups can detect small problems before they become big problems!

Regular health checks for men should include:
– Heart
– Prostate, bowel and testicular
– Blood pressure and cholesterol
– Diabetes
– Mental and sexual health

Consult your GP for a health check today!
