Cooking Classes for Youth – Spanish Fiesta

PRONIA was delighted to deliver its second youth activity, a Spanish-inspired cooking class. The class hosted youth aged 18-29 and aimed to promote social connection in a team-building environment to develop practical skills in the kitchen.
The night, however, highlighted so much more. The diverse group of participants, with a significant increase in male participation, demonstrated the importance of breaking down traditional gender role stereotypes, namely women’s roles in the kitchen, and recognised cooking and food literacy to be valuable life skills for all people despite their gender.
Exploring flavours of Spain were three passionate teams who worked collaboratively to produce four delicious meals that were enjoyed by all at the conclusion of the class.

PRONIA has had a long, proud history in advocating for social justice, equality of opportunity for individuals and communities, with the aim of helping to create a stronger, cohesive, and inclusive society for all Australians. It is within this spirit that PRONIA supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the “yes” vote in the upcoming referendum to constitutionally recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as the First Peoples of Australia and a Voice to parliament.
