PRONIA’s recent informational event on dementia, held on Monday, September 16, was a great success, kicking off Dementia Action Week from September 16–22. The event, themed “Dementia Prevention, Research, and Early Diagnosis,” attracted a large crowd at the Oakleigh Senior Citizens Centre, with community members eager to learn about this pressing issue. Our in-person support groups from Brunswick and Clayton, along with our telephone support group members, gathered for a delightful afternoon of connection and appreciation for PRONIA’s services. It was heartwarming to see everyone enjoy the chance to socialize with others facing similar circumstances. Our ‘Stronger Together’ program continues to support individuals in the early stages of dementia and their carers. Thank you to all who joined us!

We recently conducted our final training session of the year in conjunction with Dementia Awareness Month. This session focused on the early signs of dementia, emphasizing a person-centered and client-focused approach. We also explored potential prevention and treatment methods. A special thank you to our guest speaker, Fiona Taylor from Dementia Australia, for delivering an informative 90-minute session. The feedback from our volunteers was overwhelmingly positive!

SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF GREEK FAMILY STORYTIME

Many families gathered at Northcote Library and at Clayton Community Centre on Saturday 20th July for the vibrant launch of the Greek Family Storytime program, a new initiative funded by the Victorian Government and spearheaded by PRONIA. Both events were a lively celebration of Greek culture, filled with traditional Greek children’s songs, captivating stories, and engaging activities that delighted both children and parents alike.
