Day Centre Cook / Community Care Worker

Who are we?

PRONIA, meaning “to provide”, is an established community services agency with a rich 50-year history servicing the needs of the culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including the Australian-Greek community. We advocate for the vulnerable and provide innovative services to meet current and emerging multicultural community needs including: aged care, NDIS, early education, and family & community programs.

What you will be doing

We are looking for Day Centre Cook / Community Care Worker. Your role will be primarily as a cook in a small team, preparing and cooking food for our clients that attend our planned activity groups based in our Brunswick community centre, with an emphasis on Greek cuisine. You will also be assisting the activity team to support the clients with their personal care needs when team members go on break.

  • No certificate III in Individual Support required to start (will need to enrol in a course shortly after starting)
  • You will also have access to gaining additional hours by working in our community care worker home-based program, supporting the elderly in their homes.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated cooking experience with a strong understanding of Greek cuisine
  • Certificate in Food Safety or willingness to undertake certificate
  • Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent, or willingness to enrol shortly after being employed
  • Demonstrated ability to work with elderly from different cultural, linguistic, health and disability backgrounds
  • Well-developed English written and oral skills
  • Bilingual or Greek speaking – desirable
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Experience in organising recreational activities – desirable

Other requirements

  • Current driver license and access to own vehicle
  • Current certificates in First Aid and CPR, or willingness to complete the course
  • Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent, or willingness to enrol shortly after being employed
  • Undergo national police record check
  • Own IT infrastructure at home to enable work from home capabilities during periods of lockdown or where directed by the business.

Note: In accordance with PRONIA policy, Applicants must have a minimum 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, or have a valid medical exemption certificate.
