The new “Support at Home” is coming and the latest news from the PRONIA team

Over the past few months, significant efforts have been dedicated to preparing for the upcoming Aged Care Reforms. Further information is available at  Australian Governement -Aged Care Reforms.

As part of our commitment to informing the community, we have conducted information sessions, broadcasted radio programs, and developed bilingual booklets in Greek and English. These resources focus on the new Support at Home program, which will replace the current Home Care Packages and the Short-Term Restorative Care program as of 1 November 2025.

Our dedicated team has been actively assisting care recipients in understanding how the forthcoming changes will contribute to enhancing their quality of life. Additional community information sessions are scheduled to be held in the Sunshine and Lalor areas in the coming months.

Participants in our Planned Activity Groups have taken part in various enriching experiences, including lunch outings and creative arts activities such as flower arranging. Carers also had the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing day at the Skye High Restaurant.

Our Dementia Support Service continues to provide essential assistance to individuals living with dementia and their carers in both Melbourne and Hobart. Support is delivered through a range of services, including telephone and in-person support groups, one-on-one assistance, and social connection programs.

Digital literacy classes are progressing successfully in Oakleigh, Reservoir, and Preston, empowering participants with essential skills. Additionally, our social support groups in Oakleigh and Brunswick remain active and are eager to welcome new members into their communities.

PRONIA has had a long, proud history in advocating for social justice, equality of opportunity for individuals and communities, with the aim of helping to create a stronger, cohesive, and inclusive society for all Australians. It is within this spirit that PRONIA supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the “yes” vote in the upcoming referendum to constitutionally recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as the First Peoples of Australia and a Voice to parliament.
